Setting and Achieving Goals The Phoenix Career Services Career Plan home page has a list of my long-term goals with due dates. To meet those goals, short-term goals must be met, and this page must be reviewed often and necessary changes made in order to keep realistic deadlines. Using the SMART goals system: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time Frame; will ensure my goals are things that will be achieved. Creating exact goals with specific details, measurable progress, attainability, relevance, and a time frame will help reach my goals. (Chapter 4, Page 102, Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2011) Obstacles may force me to reevaluate my goal deadlines to verify they are still attainable. Long-term goals can be flexible, but should never vanish completely. A degree from University of Phoenix will allow me many opportunities when looking for a job. Upholding Academic Honesty To uphold academic honesty I need to review the Student Code of Academic Integrity at least once a year or if there are changes to it. A violation of the Student Code of Academic Integrity could have severe consequences including expulsion from school, depending on the severity of the dishonest action. Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, double-dipping or dovetailing, fabrication of information, unauthorized assistance, copyright infringement, misrepresentation, and collusion are all academically dishonest. (University of Phoenix, 2011) I can avoid academic dishonesty by citing every resource I use, submitting my work to the Plagiarism Checker, and making sure my work is no more than 20% copied information. Managing Time Wisely Awareness of how much time is spent on different activities throughout the day and adjusting those activities accordingly, can allow me to effectively manage my time. Keeping a diary of activities for a couple of days every few months will allow me see how much time is spent doing certain activities, and can help me shift time from one activity to another. Caring for my family will always be my first priority. Since I am not working outside of the home, school is my second priority. Allowing myself time to de-stress and relax is important, but needs to be kept to a minimum so I am not spending hours on end playing games or reading Facebook. Fostering Reading Comprehension and Retention Using the SQ3R method in all of my academic reading assignments will enhance my reading comprehension. (Chapter 7, Page 191, Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2011) ââ¬Å"SQ3R is an acronym for survey, question, read, recite, and review. â⬠(Chapter 7, Page 190, Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2011) Surveying reading assignments allows me to look for bold words and headings which I can write my questions about. (Chapter 7, Pages 191-192, Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2011) Finding the main idea of what I am reading, prioritizing key points, and highlighting information that stands out will help during the review phase. (Chapter 7, Page 196, Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2011) Reciting the answers to the questions I raised will help me commit the information to memory. (Chapter 7, Page 197, Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2011) Reviewing my questions and answers, summarizing the highlighted portions, and quizzing myself on different aspects of the material during the review phase will also be helpful. (Chapter 7, Page 198, Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2011) Another study technique is using flashcards so I can memorize important information, especially vocabulary words or historical dates. Using study skill that work with my multiple intelligences can be helpful. Moving around while reviewing flashcards, listening to music while reading, or cutting and pasting material I have read into documents with similar ideas could all be advantageous to my studying skills. (Chapter 7, Page 204, Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2011) When highlighting I should avoid over marking and use a regular pen or pencil instead of a highlighter. (Chapter 7, Page 205, Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2011) Making notes in the margins will help master content. (Chapter 7, Page 206, Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2011) Adapting Work Habits to Fit My Personality Located in the Phoenix Career Services tab on the Library page are items to survey different areas of my personality: career interests, personal competencies, work culture preferences, and reasoning aptitude. Knowledge of my personal competencies can be advantageous in all aspects of my life. I am one to follow instructions, to cooperate, and to adhere to values. University of Phoenixââ¬â¢s My Career Plan page defines following directions as ââ¬Å"appropriately follows instructions from others without unnecessarily challenging authority; follows procedures and policies; keeps to schedules; arrives punctually for work and meetings; demonstrates commitment to the organization; complies with legal obligations and safety requirements of the role. ââ¬Å" (University of Phoenix, 2013) I do not like to be late no matter what. I thrive when there are policies, procedures and schedules to follow. I do what I am asked, remain organized, and confirm compliance with any laws when necessary. Defined on University of Phoenixââ¬â¢s My Career Plan someone who cooperates ââ¬Å"shows respect for the views and contributions of other team members; shows empathy; listens, supports and cares for others; consults others and shares information and expertise with them; builds team spirit and reconciles conflict; adapts to the team and fits in well. â⬠(University of Phoenix, 2013) Working as a team where I can share information with others respectfully, support each otherââ¬â¢s ideas and expertise, and have an environment that is well designed with all the necessary resources in order for me to do my job well are also part of my personality. (University of Phoenix, 2013) Adhering to values means I do not change what I believe in or who I am, but University of Phoenixââ¬â¢s My Career Plan defines adhering to values as ââ¬Å"upholds ethics and values; demonstrates integrity; promotes and defends equal opportunities, builds diverse teams; encourages organizational and individual responsibility towards the community and the environment. â⬠(University of Phoenix, 2013) My reasoning aptitude page says, ââ¬Å"Your profile shows you could work well in careers that use both cognitive abilities and practical skills. You may be attracted to practical work or to analytical work, or to careers that allows you to combine practical skills and thinking. â⬠(University of Phoenix, 2013) I love having challenges in my career, and learning new skills or trying new tasks. Conclusion This Survival Guide provides information for continued success throughout my academic career at University of Phoenix. Keeping my goals up-to-date with deadlines will ensure that I meet my long-term goals, and do not lose sight of what I have set out to accomplish. I will review my goals and this guide often as a reminder of everything available to me for my success. References Appendix D. (2013). Henrik Isbens A Dolls House Essay -- A Dolls House Essays
Ibsen's "A Doll's House" In Ibsenââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"A Dollââ¬â¢s Houseâ⬠, in Act Two Scene 6, Noraââ¬â¢s deceptive behaviour and desperation reaches its climax due to the arrival of the letter. This is because the letter contains the means she used to get hold of the money. During the time when the play took place, society frowned upon women asserting themselves. Women were supposed to play the role in which they supported their husbands, took care of their children and made sure that everything around the house was perfect. Work, politics and decisions were left to the males. Nora broke the law and decided to borrow money to pay for her husbandââ¬â¢s treatment. She did not borrow the money in the ââ¬Ërightââ¬â¢ way instead she forged her fatherââ¬â¢s signature. By doing this, she not only broke the law but also stepped away from the role society had placed on her, being totally dependent on her husband. In this scene, she faces the truth in the letter. The person from whom she borrowed the money, Krogstad, wants payment on the loan. He also blackmails her about influencing Helmer to give him a better job at the bank and hence increase his position in society. This causes Nora to try to keep the letter away from her husband; but what is the significance of the letter and what does it mean to Nora? Possibly, this letter catalyses how Nora acts and how she thinks and she has been deceiving Helmer for the whole of their marriage. This included all sorts of deceptions. One thing that a good audience can recogn...

Analysis of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 875 Downloads: 2 Date added: 2019/04/10 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: Fahrenheit 451 Essay Ray Bradbury Essay Did you like this example? Fahrenheit 451, which was written by Ray Bradbury, is a dystopian novel that explores the consequences of superficiality and knowledge. This story attracted me because I am interested in learning how society would be different if seeking out awareness was publishable. A positive aspect of this book is that it proposes a scenario in which everyone is in the mindset of every man for himself, therefore envisioning a cruel and dystopian world. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Analysis of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury" essay for you Create order According to Bradbury, his book is a warning. It is a reminder that what we have is valuable sometimes we take that value for granted. (Bradbury, Page xi) Something which I found negative about Fahrenheit 451 was that at times I found the story too fast paced and hard to follow. The author who wrote the book still presents an insightful scenario. The main character, who is a man, can be seen as both the protagonist and antagonist. Montag shot one continuous pulse of liquid fire on him (Bradbury, Page 113), demonstrates the protagonist side of Montag by showing that he was tired of punishing people for reading, so he killed his boss by burning him. Montag wanted to comprehend books even though it was against his job It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, things blackened and changed (Bradbury, Page 1) shows the satisfaction Montag receives from going to peoples homes and burning them down for reading books. Although Montag didnt understand why, he would burn peoples books. Writing gives us a warning about our future. Especially when the subject is a dystopian world with many correlations to our own. The story focuses on Guy Montag, Faber, Mildred, Clarisse, and Beatty living in a futuristic United States. The rising action occurs when Montag snatches a Bible and looks to Faber, an old English professor, for help in understanding books. The climax happens when Montag kills his boss and escapes into the forest in search of book lovers after a firefighter chase down. Scared for their lives, Montag and his group want to head back to their town. Montag loves his town but is afraid to return. He and his friend choose to go back even after the bombing. The story takes place in the United States sometime in the future from the time the book was written. Montag, who is feeling alone, somehow still spreads knowledge to an ignorant society. This works well in the novel. Montage has a paramount purpose but he is despised by everyone. Censoring creates peace and can be interpreted as the main theme of the novel. Colored people dont like Little Black Sambo. Burn it. White people dont feel good about Uncle Toms Cabin. Burn it. Someones written a book on tobacco and cancer of the lungs? The cigarette people are weeping? Burn the book . . . Serenity . . . Peace . . . (Bradbury, Page 57) Establishing the theme of a dystopian society, this text shows that people dont care about serious issues as long as there is peace. Apart from that, the secondary theme in the novel is letting technology take over your mind and life. Why they [the presidential candidates] were right in that parlor wall . . . One was always picking his nose . . . (Bradbury, Page 93) and, I cant talk to my wife; she listens to the walls (Bradbury, Page 78) show that the large television walls placed in everyones home have influence over everything. Also to who they vote for in the presidential elections. Voting creates a Democratic based governme nt system. The primary conflict in the novel Fahrenheit 451 is that the main character, Montag, feels a clash between what society thinks and his interest in what the minority has to say. Clarisse, a girl who just met Montag on his way home from work, somehow still presents him with many inquiries and happenings in her life that go against what society thinks is acceptable; I rarely watch the parlor walls . . . So Ive got lots of time for crazy thoughts (Bradbury, Page 7), Are you happy? (Bradbury, Page 7), and Do you ever read any of the books you burn? (Bradbury, Page 5) Also, when Montag goes to see Faber, he says, I stole it [a Bible] and Youre the only one who I knew might help me. (Bradbury, Page 77) The conflict can be defined as remaining in ignorance vs. attaining knowledge. The resolution was Montag and his book-lover group returning to the city to build a new society. The man who burns books still leaves his town to start a new civilization. Montag who starts as the antagonist, but ends up being the protagonist in the novel. The author who wrote the novel is trying to give us a glimpse into a world in which everyone is superficial, ignorant, and free thought is banned. Something I took out from Fahrenheit 451 is that everyone should always be able form their own unique mindset. Valuing knowledge causes people not to live in a culture that dehumanizes for being different. People have different interests in book; nevertheless, I would recommend this book to anyone. Futuristic in nature, it has the ability to warn us not to follow the same direction as the nation and people of the book. Ray Bradbury presents negative scenarios but tells a profound story in the end. Analysis of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury - Free Essay Example Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1106 Downloads: 9 Date added: 2019/04/10 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: Fahrenheit 451 Essay Ray Bradbury Essay Did you like this example? Imagine living where people would get burned by firemen for having books. Somewhere where they would be more focused on athletics rather than core classes such as English, History, or Math. Fahrenheit 451 is based around this very thought and idea. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Analysis of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury" essay for you Create order In the novel, Ray Bradbury wrote about a world where they were not allowed to read without losing their life. In this book people are more focused on television and their headphones. They are too busy or lazy to read. Eventually they made a rule that if they read or own a book the firemen will come to their house and burn them, their books, and their house. Mildred, Montags wife is way more interested in her television and headphones than her husband. She is so attached to technology she just reads peoples lips rather than actually hearing what they are saying. She also considers the people on her television to be her family. Another character who shows examples of these ideas of a world like this would be Montag. He is a firemen who had a line of family members ahead of him who passed the responsibility of being a fireman down to him. He never really put too much thought into the fact of having the job and maybe did it just because he enjoyed the smell of the karosyne. This is the lives of people in this book. In the novel books are banned and they cant read or own any books because people get offended and depressed because books are blunt and wont sugar coat everything just for them. People in the novel put off books and say they are not important. Books are important! The argument of books causing offence and depression could be right but people can take offence by from social media even worse than a book. This is because multiple people can see and comment on the idea. Also it can includes pictures and emojis plus photoshop to make them feel/look worse. People need to just accept themselves for who they are and deal with it; not be offended by every little thing that isnt exactly how they want it. If society can make it with all of the crap and racial sayings on social media then they darn sure better be able to handle a book. Books give less graphics and nobody can comment on the photos or scenes like a post or a movie scene. With a book people get to imagine the characters and how they talk or sound. That way they dont feel compared to them and dont have other people making comments on the post. In the book it states that books are burned because Colored people dont like Little Black Sambo. Burn it. White people dont feel good about Uncle Tom s Cabin. Burn it. Someones written a book on tobacco and cancer of the lungs? The cigarette people are weeping? Burn all, burn everything. Fire is bright fire is clean (57, Bradbury). This shows how easily the people are offended and how insecure they are with themselves. How they want everything said to fit perfect to their ears not always the truth. Also their solution to the problem. This goes in hand with the society in present day. People do not want to be offended or look lesser than another. With technology it is easy to read into ideas and feel picked on or laughed at. This is due to people making comments and movies making references. With a book people are not piping in and giving their unnecessary two cents. Books are important and do serve a purpose, they help peoples minds exercise and work to be able to get stronger and better at obtaining knowledge and good memory. When reading a book, they get to imagine what the characters look like and how they follow through with their actions and gestures. With a book they get to read the actual words rather than just hear people saying them and when they are stumped on a word, go to another book and look up the definition. While reading, they get to go to another place and time and imagine themselves in the setting. They get to imagine how the setting looks based on how they interpret what the books description says. While reading it works the brain cells and makes them stronger which then allows them to obtain knowledge quicker and easier with it sticking; memory that you get when reading whereas with a movie it is more just for entertainment. Books are not all about strengthening their brains cells but also are meant for entertainment, The y get to design the character as they would like to rather than a director doing it for them which makes the book more fun for them. In the book it says If you dont want a man unhappy politically, dont give him two sides to a question to worry him; give him one. Better yet give him none (58 Bradbury). Saying take a mans ability to choose how he wants to interpret something or feel about it will make him more happy. Knowledge is good for them and they think they have tons of knowledge but, they are really being held back from the potential of knowledge they could have. They have done this to themselves by planting stupid thoughts in their heads. A book is a loaded gun in the house next door. Burn it. Take the shot from the weapon (58,Bradbury). Sudjusting that the books are the weapons and they are the weapons. So if they take away the knowledge (books) they will be safe and away from harms way. They have limited themselves to what knowledge they allow themselves to learn or take in. They either learn what is presented to the on their television or by what they hear from friends or on the street. They do not have books or science blogs or dictionaries they pick up and start reading to obtain knowledge hens froth holding themselves back from their potential knowledge. All this because they all want to be treated fairly and not feel as a subordinate to another being or amongst their friends. Luckily America is not like this and people get to make their own decision on weather or not they want to read or not without the threat of being burned for doing so. Imagine/picture how many peoples lives would be ruined if society went to no books to keep their life. People who write books would be out on the streets looking for work and ways to stay out of trouble for making books.

Economic Cartoon Analysis Essay - 618 Words
In todayââ¬â¢s grim economic climate, cartoonists across the country have taken pen to paper to satirize and make light of the gloomy situation the United States is currently in. This particular cartoon deals with several major economic principles, such as the idea that people face tradeoffs (Raj). To illustrate, in society, there is a tradeoff between efficiency and equity. Efficiency means society is getting the most it can from its resources, whereas equity is distributing economic prosperity fairly among the members of society. Another principle this cartoon addresses is that a countryââ¬â¢s standard of living is attributable to the productivity of the country (Raj). Well, when these principles are examined in light of todayââ¬â¢s economy, theyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Economics is essentially the way we organize and use our resources. It determines the way a country or province runs and how it works. Since resources are depleting and critical to the livelihood of many, questions of ethics arise when deciding how to allocate these resources. Therefore, one can say that ââ¬Å"ethics is the soul of economicsâ⬠(Singh). Without ethics, economics inevitably becomes all about greed and consumption, instead of the greater good of the people. By removing ethics from economics, as this cartoon suggests, ââ¬Å"social responsibility and critical awarenessâ⬠(Singh) are also removed. In this cartoon, a man who is representing the unemployed in America is asking the U.S. Nation Building Shop if those without jobs can be fixed next. However, the government is currently working on Afghanistan, and cannot help them. Basically, this cartoon is saying that the government is more concerned with another country than with its own people. This goes against the basic ethics of economics, that we all have a social responsibility to support our fellow Americans so that our country can thrive and prosper. If the unemployed do not have the support of the g overnment, it does not bode well for the future of the U.S. The jobless should be our first priority, because in order to have a very high standard of living, the country must be productive. The Cultural Atmosphere Of South Africa - 1362 Words
Moving on from the previous notion that legal systems impact our perceptions as a collective, Elisa Longinettââ¬â¢s study of those living with HIV in South Africa examines the risk of volatile reactions found after sexual disclosure to their partners. What was found that the biggest indicator whether one would face volatile reactions were based upon their sex and their level of income: males with money were less at risk than males without, and males without high income were less likely than females without high income, there were little to no females to report in the study who had high income. Longinett continues to state that this is due to the cultural atmosphere of South Africa was overtly focussed upon oneââ¬â¢s sex and their economic status. If they did expand, it would mean that they were expanding into residential areas, which is another impossibility. Once the factories had reached their full capacity in the areas they were situated, they were forced to move. This is a lack of expansion space. Buildings/factories often became out of date. New technologies had been introduced into the industries, and the basically the old factories were unsuited to the modern techniques. Often the buildings became derelict, and too bad to repair. The new factories were bigger and better, and could not expand in the inner city therefore they moved into the suburban areas. As the new companies looked for places to expand into, they tended to avoid the inner city. The infrastructure was poor. The roads were too small to accommodate all the large vehicles. People living in the inner city tend to park their cars on the side of the road therefore causing a blockage, or narrow roads. As the factories closed and moved, so did the majority of the population. As a result shops and restaurants suffered, and struggle to find business.
